The Emmys are one of my favorite award shows. Not just because I am addicted to television and get pleasure from seeing my favorite show, and actors awarded for their work, but I also love the red carpet coverage. All the lust worthy dresses, their perfect hair, and gorgeous makeup turn my eyes into heart shaped pools. Of course, the majority (if not all) of the celebrity attendees rely on professional stylists to get them red carpet ready. I don't let that intimidate me from stealing inspiration to recreate my most craved look(s) from the night.
Last night I was swooning! I especially loved Lady Gaga, and Emma Roberts look. They both were not only representing one of my favorite shows (American Horror Story) but they were also crushing it with their entire ensembles. It was as if they almost planned it; both were emulating such a classic and yet glamorous look. They paid homage to old Hollywood with their gowns and deep-parted, loosely coiled hair and natural makeup. The BEST part about their style was how wearable it is off of the red carpet. So I did what I always do and recreated both looks for a totally attainable look.
Here's how I did it:
I started off using Smashbox Iconic Primer to even out skin tone and prep face.
I then applied Benefit's Hello Flawless foundation. I used just a small amount, enough to camouflage and even out the skin tone.
Next I used my Sephora contour/highlight stick. Concealed under my eyes in a triangle shape and used the darker shade on the hollows of my cheeks for a subtle contour.
I used the Smashbox Contour Kit to set the highlighted and contoured areas and blended and blended, and then blended some more.
Both Gaga and Emma had a natural glow, so to help replicate that I used my Nars Orgasm Blush on the apples of my cheeks and then blended backward along the cheekbone. I love the neutral peach shade of this blush; it has enough pink tone to give a natural flush.
On my eyes, I used Stila's In The Light eyeshadow palette. First, sweeping the shade Bare over the entire eyelid. Then in the crease using light strokes I applied Sandstone for a little drama. Then for a little sparkle and shine I patted on Sunset just on the lids below the crease. I combined both Sandstone and Sunset and gently smudged them along my lower lash line for a slightly smokey and sultry look.
You can use false lashes for a glamorous touch if you want to take it up a notch. Otherwise, I curled my lashes and applied Benefits They're Real Mascara that is my fave go-to mascara.
I always say you are never fully dressed without perfect brows. I filled them out by using Scheana Marie by Starlooks eyebrow kit.
Finally to polish it off I smoothed on Too Faced Melted Lipstick in Nude.
For the hair:
Create a deep side part. Then take thick sections of hair and wrap around a 1.5-inch barrel iron. Using a wider iron and thick sections of your hair will create loose curls that look polished but not overdone. Then I used a light hold finishing spray to tame fly always and set curls.
Accessorize with simple classic pieces. Bold earrings and a simple pendant necklace are perfect.
Now you look red carpet worthy for any and every occasion!
