It was all over the runways, on the red carpet and now here it is again! The power goth lip is one of the hottest trends this season. I realise this look isn’t for the faint of heart, but that’s where choosing the right shade comes into play. You don’t have to go straight for the black lipstick. Opt for a deep Bordeaux instead or a raisin hue that suits you and your skin tone. Definitely, make sure it’s a long wear lip because that’s the key to wearing this look and making sure it stays put. And here’s how.

As with any lipstick, before applying make sure your lips are smooth and hydrated. I like to use a lip foundation before applying my lipstick. It creates an even surface and prevents the dreaded “halo” that can happen sometimes, especially when using dark shades.

Next, you want to line your lips. This step is crucial. It will help shape your lips and prevent “bleeding”. I like to blend the liner toward the centre to help my lipstick blend.

Now time to apply. Take your time and make sure you are getting even coats. If you go outside the lines you can clean up with a small brush, some primer or the lipstick foundation.
I like to highlight my Cupid’s bow and under my bottom lip for extra oomph!

It a good idea to keep the rest of you face natural when wearing such a dark shade of lipstick. Sweep on some blush and some mascara and you’re good to go!
